Hackintosh Outperforms Mac Pro

As the guy on Lifehacker just showed, his single core, sub $1000 Hackintosh just blew away the $2k+ MacPro on nearly all benchmarks. As is being shown in the ‘Building A Mac Killer’ series – Apple doesn’t hold a candle to what you can do with a little research, patience and time.

Oooooh….his hackintosh doesn’t have iSight!! Or a free printer!! Whine all you want Macaplodocuses, Mac is a PC now – and it just can’t hang with a DIY system in terms of price/performance.

A blogger has uncovered what he claims is a “massive” bug in Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 Finder app that could result in the loss of data when folders are moved from a Mac to directly- or network-connected storage.

Well! Looks like the Apple QA team was smoking their lunch when they had to test out this functionality. Tsk tsk tsk…and you guys thought Vista was bad!

1. At $599, it is ridiculously expensive. (Add in the cost of an AT&T contract and you get close to $1500)

2. Those who want to buy one must sell their soul to evil mega-corporation AT&T.

3. Japan already has technologically superior phones, and they’re far cheaper.

4. Slower internet than the commercials show: “The data experience is going to be very slow. If you’re on a cellular network, [using the Internet] is going to be very slow.”

5. Initial reports indicate that YouTube is slow and crappy using cellular network internet/EDGE. It’s nothing like in the commercials.

6. You cannot remove its battery. Thanks for replicating one of the biggest complaints about the ipod, Apple!

7. The glass touch screen of the iPhone guarantees that thousands of customers who drop their phones will have cracked screens.

8. The touchscreen keyboard sucks, according to those who have used the phone.

9. It can’t send MMS picture messages.

10. The camera has little or no options, and the pictures it takes aren’t very good.

11. It lacks proper support for Flash websites. So much for the internet.

12. It can’t record video.

13. “Pinching” pictures to zoom might look neat in commercials, but many reviewers are saying it actually sucks.

14. It lacks 3G high-speed data transfer.

15. No songs as ringtones.

16. No GPS.

17. It doesn’t work under 64-bit Windows XP / Windows Vista!!!!!!! Thanks for not including that in your Windows System Requirements, Apple!

18. It only allows for a maximum of 1 picture to be attached to each e-mail you send.

19. It doesn’t have a file browser/organizer.

20. Its default ringtones suck.

21. You can not save documents on it: documents can only be viewed as attachments when they’re sent to your e-mail address.

22. No games!!

23. Its “quick list” dialing sucks compared to traditional speed dialing, which it lacks..

24. Long activation waits: many new iPhone users are reporting that they are being told to wait hours or even days to activate service for their phone. Thanks, AT&T!

25. Heat issues: the iPhone can get very hot when it is in use.

26. Deceptive Ads: Apple has been using models with gigantic hands in their advertisements for the iPhone in an effort to trick consumers into believing it is more compact.

27. Many of the positive press reports about the iPhone are influenced by newspapers and TV networks that simply want to profit from the hypefest, or even worse, reporters who are looking to sell books about the iPhone.

The Oobject Rotten Apple Award. To mark this week’s 10th anniversary of the death of the Newton we have picked some of the products from Apple, that we’d rather forget.

We could have picked many more from the years when Jobs was in the wilderness and Apple attempted to be market driven rather than design driven, under Sculley. Reactive rather than pro-active. One problem, the gallery would have been a sea of similar, anonymous items. For the Sculley era machines, assume that we mean every product in the range.

Scroll up past the nauseating image of the new iPod nano, and click ‘Store’.  Click on one of their iMac desktops, like the $1,199 model.  Take a look at the hardware specs. Now go to:

And put together an Inspiron system, with identical hardware.  Actually, Dell doesnt have an 8x DVD burner or 250GB Hard disk option, they’ll make you roll with the 16x DVD burners that came out 2 years ago, and a larger 320GB drive.  When the dell system is all built, check out the price…go on, take a look:

I hear a lot of MacFolks flogging Microsoft all the time for the price they charge for Windows…but it looks like anyone who buys that iMac system is paying a hefty premium for OSX and a shiny white case with an apple on it.

Vista Home Premium cost $200 – based on the hardware costs alone, you’re paying a good $600 for OSX!  If you just bought a Mac, and you dont feel a least a little sick – just click HERE and don’t bother reading the rest.

 There really is no winner in the Mac vs PC debate…they’re both pretty much identical machines under the covers.  The only real ‘loser’ is the sucker who bought into Apple’s marketing schtick and thinks they have something special and exclusive in the PC world.  YOU HAVE AN INTEL BASED PC – with a $600 operating system that doesn’t do anything unique, other than run the limited array of applications that are OSX specific.
